More suspension travel, sophisticated equipment: the special edition of the Thok Mig-E-MTB is designed to provide maximum riding fun in demanding terrain. At the BIKE Festival in Riva, the Italians will be presenting their latest gem. The Mig Anniversary has Öhlins steel suspension and the suspension fork offers 160 millimetres of travel. The Anniversary model also rolls on 2.6 Maxxis tyres. The Shimano XT Di2 electronic shifting system changes gears, while the Shimano Saint brakes provide the necessary braking power. The premium version is available for 6790 euros.
Thok e-bikes was founded and significantly developed by Stefano Migliorini in 2015. Migliorini has over 30 years of experience in downhill racing and the bike industry. He was BMX World Champion in 1987 and finished third overall in the Downhill Gold Cup in 1993. He gained his industrial experience at 3T Cycling, Kona Bikes, Dainese and Marzocchi. Today, he puts these many years of experience into practice at Thok E-Bikes. In addition to Stefano Migliorini, 22-time motorbike trial world champion Toni Bou is also involved in the development and testing of the bikes.
Thok is breaking new ground in sales: with a combination of an online shop and dealers who have test bikes. There are already almost 40 of these so-called Thok Points in Italy. The bikes can be purchased directly from stock, so the dealer does not have to keep any stock. The first Thok Point in Germany is located at Cycling Muhr. Although there are only around twenty Thok e-MTBs on German trails so far, this is set to change. Anyone on holiday in Finale Ligure, for example, can also test a Thok there.
So far, the Italians have only offered one platform: The Mig comes with a 150 mm fork and 140 mm rear triangle. The Shimano Steps motor powers the plus-fully. Thok flanges the 500 Wh battery to the down tube, ensuring a maximally low centre of gravity. The moderate 450 mm chainstays promise playful handling, while the 66 mm steering angle should ensure the necessary smoothness. The battery and motor are protected from damage by skid plates, and there is space for a bottle cage in the frame triangle. The bikes are available in four frame sizes: S, M, L and XL.
The 4150 euro Mig marks the entry level and is said to weigh 21.5 kilos. It comes with a Rockshox Yari suspension fork and deluxe shock. The eleven gears are shifted by the Sram NX drivetrain and stopped by Shimano Deore brakes and 200 mm discs. The more expensive Mig R has the higher-quality Rockshox Lyrik suspension fork and complete Shimano XT equipment. It costs 5250 euros and weighs 21 kilograms according to the manufacturer. Both models are fitted with 2.8 inch wide Maxxis tyres.
We have already been able to test the Thok Mig extensively. You can find the full report, including the extensive lab tests and our riding impressions, in EMTB 2/2018 - on newsstands from 15 May.
