Dimitri Lehner puts the new Propain Tyee through its paces.
Agile, lively, fun: the Propain Tyee remains true to itself. The geometry has been made a little longer and slacker, and the weight has been reduced slightly. As a result, the 2023 Tyee remains more of a classic enduro bike than an EWS bruiser - and still sufficiently fast.

The Propain Tyee Update 2023: After three years, the mail-order company from the Allgäu region has given its enduro endurance bike a facelift. We have - exclusively - the first comparison test of the recently launched bike for 7200 euros.

The frame construction has remained the same - doesn't matter. Why change what works well? The new Tyee is a mill longer, flatter and lighter. The Propainies paid more attention to the details, e.g. the tube design or the integrated cable routing in the cockpit. Thanks to the flipchip, the Tyee can now be optimally converted into a mullet. Super: The components can be customised as desired using the online configurator.

On the trail, the Tyee remains true to its previous character and presents itself more as a classic enduro bike than an EWS bruiser. It rides very agilely and makes it as easy as possible for the rider to actively corner through the terrain. The geometry is successful and requires no familiarisation. With its rather steep steering angle, the Tyee steers directly and cuts through corners like a carpet knife, despite the long chainstays.

Not all testers liked the cockpit; a shorter stem provided a remedy. If the trail starts to bottom out and starts to take hits, the Propain can handle less speed. Although we gradually tuned the bike softer and thus tickled more comfort out of the suspension, the test competition still seemed bigger than the Propain. "The Tyee rides like a potent all-mountain," was the verdict of one tester. On tours, the Propain pedals comfortably uphill. The rear suspension only bobs minimally and can also be stabilised using the compression lever - unfortunately, this is difficult to reach while riding.

Conclusion on the Propain Tyee Custom 2023 test

The new Tyee is not a full-throttle baller. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. After all, I don't want to hurtle down the EWS tracks at Vmax, I want lively handling and the widest possible range of use. The Propain was fast enough for me. However, the chainstays should be shorter. - Dimitri Lehner, Editor-in-Chief FREERIDE

Born in South Baden, Laurin Lehner is, by his own admission, a lousy racer. Maybe that's why he is fascinated by creative, playful biking. What counts for him is not how fast you get from A to B, but what happens in between. Lehner writes reports, interviews scene celebrities and tests products and bikes - preferably those with a lot of suspension travel.
