Niner Bikes: Bosch double for E-MTB debut
Niner Bikes was an early mover when it came to 29er mountain bikes. Now the Americans are presenting their first E-MTBs. Instead of starting small, they offer up to 180 millimetres of suspension travel. And: a lifetime guarantee!

The Americans from Niner Bikes decided early on that 29 inches was the optimum wheel size for mountain bikes - and even implemented this credo in the company name. They were ahead of their time and 29er bikes are now more in demand than ever. The drive for innovation was somewhat slower when it came to e-mountain bikes. But now the time has come. With the e9 series, Niner is presenting its two very first e-MTBs.

The RIP e9 and the WFO e9 come with the proven combination of Bosch Performance CX motor and 625 Powertube battery. The two aluminium fullys are designed for serious off-road use and are aimed at all-mountain and enduro mountain bikers. Of course, Niner also remains true to its original philosophy, at least on the front wheel. The RIP e9 trail bike with 160/150 millimetre travel rolls on 29-inch wheels at the front and rear, while the WFO e9 enduro bike (180 millimetre travel) relies on a 29er front wheel and combines this with a 27.5 rear wheel.

At first glance, the RIP e9 looks almost identical, but the details are a little more moderate: 160 mm on the fork, 150 on the air-sprung rear, plus 29er wheels. The geometry of the Niner Bikes E-MTBs

A look at the geometry shows that even the tamer of the two bikes, the RIP e9, does not shy away from challenging descents. The head angle is slack at 65° or 64.5° (adjustable using a flip chip). The reach of 430/425 mm (size S) to 470/465 mm (size L) is roomy, but by no means extreme. The chainstay length of 450 millimetres is a healthy average. The E-Enduro WFO e9 primarily changes one factor, the steering angle. At 64 or 63.5 degrees, it is one degree slacker.

Florentin Vesenbeckh has been on a mountain bike since he was ten years old. Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
