A closeness to nature, daredevil agility and joie de vivre: these are the three attributes that the new SCIU Bikes brand is committed to. To celebrate the launch on the market in style, the Hamburg-based company is also presenting its portfolio. Included: a gravel bike called Juniper and the enduro mountain bike Aspen.
29 inches, 170 millimetres of travel at the front and 160 millimetres at the rear as well as a full carbon frame form the basis for the new trail predator. To do justice to the brand name SCIU (modified from the Latin for squirrel), the extremely progressive kinematics and geometry are intended to give the Aspen the responsiveness of a squirrel. The newcomer relies on a four-bar linkage with Horst link for the rear suspension design. If you want to elicit even more playfulness from the bike, you can convert to mullet tyres with a smaller 27.5-inch rear wheel if required. A complete bike model is available for € 5999 with Rockshox suspension elements and a Sram GX drivetrain. The SCIU Aspen is also available as a frameset including a Rockshox shock.
With the Juniper, the Hamburg-based company is also launching a direct attack on the highly competitive gravel bike segment. The newcomers from the Hanseatic city also rely on carbon for the frame. Weight: 980 grams according to the manufacturer in size M. In order to offer the rider as much comfort as possible on long rides over gravel tracks, the frame can accommodate tyres up to 53 millimetres wide. If you want the gravel bike to be even more suitable for off-road riding, you can also ride it with 27.5-inch wheels (650B) with tyres up to 2.1" wide - just like the Open with its model U.P. offers. Numerous mounting points for luggage on the top tube, in the frame triangle and fork also make the Juniper the perfect companion on multi-day tours. The price for the complete bike is 4199 euros. Parallel to the Aspen, a frameset is also available for 1999 euros.
SCIU relies on a two-tier sales model. The bikes can be purchased either directly online via the web shop or via a total of six dealers in Germany and Austria. Anyone who chooses a bike from SCIU receives a six-year guarantee on the frame.
