Mondraker Foxy: High-end 29-inch enduro bike from Spain
The Mondraker Foxy has long been a much sought-after, classy bike in the all-mountain/enduro sector. Now the Spaniards are switching the all-rounder to large 29er wheels. However, 27.5 inch wheels will still be available.

The Mondraker Foxy, the Spanish interpretation of an all-mountain bike, has been on the market almost unchanged for several years. No wonder, because back in 2015, in the last BIKE individual test, the Foxy proved to be geometrically advanced and unusually downhill capable, despite its low weight. Now, in 2018, it has to be said that the guys at Mondraker were simply ahead of their time.

But after a few geometric improvements and new equipment every year, it's now time for a new era. The new Foxy looks almost the same as the old one and the frame weight is said not to have changed either, but now the Foxy also comes in 29 inches for even more all-round performance!

29 inch, same frame weight as 650b

The frame should weigh the same as the existing 27.5 inch model, which should be possible thanks to improvements in the details of the frame and optimisation of the manufacturing process. Mondraker also claims to have improved the overall stiffness. Like its brother with the "small" wheels, the frame offers 150 millimetres of travel, a metric trunnion-mount shock and enlarged enduro bearings are state of the art.

66 degree head angle, 490 reach in L

As expected, Mondraker has remained true to itself in terms of geometry. The bike is positioned as a capable trail and enduro bike, the top model features a Fox downhill shock and the new Fox 36 with 160 millimetres of travel, so the steering angle of 66 degrees is hardly surprising. The reach is naturally long at 470 and 490 millimetres in M and L respectively, but there is an extremely short stem of 30 millimetres, which, with chainstays of 435 millimetres in length, should make the bike not only smooth-running but also manoeuvrable. The effective seat angle of 75.5 degrees should ensure comfortable pedalling uphill.

The Mondraker Foxy 29 will be launched in three model variants and only in carbon, there will no longer be a front derailleur mount. The top model, the Foxy XR, is said to weigh a reasonable 13.4 kilograms in size M despite its stable components and without pedals. Prices are not yet available. All information on the new Foxy 29er can also be found on the Homepage of Mondraker.

Always full throttle. The Mondraker Foxy should now be able to compete with the Dune downhill, but should remain lighter and easier to pedal.
