There are often co-operations between car and bike manufacturers, but the bikes are usually more of a status symbol than real mountain bikes. Not so the Ducati MIG RR. Hidden beneath the chic design is a Thok MIG. This has already convinced us in a test (EMTB 2/18).
The technical data sounds promising: The MIG relies on a 29er front wheel paired with a 27.5-inch rear tyre in Plus format. The suspension is typical of enduro bikes, with a 170 mm fork and a 160 millimetre rear triangle. The concept seems to make sense: the Italians flange the 500 Wh battery for the Shimano Steps motor to the down tube from below - this ensures a maximally low centre of gravity. A nice side effect: there is space for a bottle cage in the frame. All You can find information about the Thok MIG here.
As is usual with such models, the MIG RR is fitted with only the finest parts: a Fox 36 at the front filters the shocks, and a Float DPX2 shock at the rear. The eleven gears are shifted by Shimano XT gears and the bike is stopped by a powerful Saint brake with 200 mm discs. The Maxxis tyres are fitted over Mavic wheels. The bike should only weigh 22.5 kilos in frame size M.
Ducati will present the MIG on Sunday at the EICMA motorbike show in Milan together with the new 2019 motorbikes. The price of the bike is not yet known, nor is the delivery date.
