KTM also knows how to make a bike look smart. The frame is beautifully finished, but offers little freedom of movement. After we swapped the unsuitable stem for a shorter and flatter one, the riding position was just right. You sit in the centre of the bike. At first glance, the rear suspension is a normal four-bar linkage. However, the shock on the KTM is suspended. The rocker pushes from above, while the shock sits on the chainstay at the bottom and moves downwards with it during compression. This is supposed to provide more suspension travel. However, this phenomenon was not really "tangible". Nevertheless, the "Prowler" was a positive surprise on the downhill. The fork works confidently, the rear suspension is firmer in comparison, but also absorbs big hits well. It only bottoms out on bumpy landings. Compared to the Canyon "Torque", the bike lacks composure, but it is in good hands on flowing singletrails. Uphill, the bike is bob-free and light-footed. The "Nobby Nic" tyres play a big part in this, but spoil the performance in rough terrain. Disappointing: the brakes. The ergonomics are perfect, but the braking performance is weak. A large disc at the front could remedy this.
CONCLUSIONThe KTM is a good all-rounder. It can't keep up with the best in the DH test, but it cuts a fine figure on the trail.
