With the new Ghost FR AMR, the bike company from the Upper Palatinate is sending the new edition of its fun-orientated super enduro bike into the race. Updated geometry and the best suspension technology at a competitive price should make the hearts of freeriders and all those who want to become one beat faster.
The FR AMR is not an efficient touring bike, that much is clear. But the FR AMR is not about climbing as many mountains as possible in one day or covering as many kilometres as possible in the shortest possible time. Riding fun downhill with solid climbing characteristics, that's the maxim. That's why, in addition to a significantly slacker geometry compared to its predecessor, Ghost also relies exclusively on steel spring shocks.
Flat geometry? Exactly! For a long time, Ghost remained true to the rather playful riding behaviour, but now they are taking a more radical approach. The bike is still supposed to be playful in some way, but the key data of the new aluminium frame point to quite a downhill monster. The head angle is now only 64.5 degrees, the reach has been significantly increased to 466 millimetres in frame size L, and the chainstays are also rather long at 440 millimetres. A 15 millimetre drop in the bottom bracket should ensure a low stance on the bike and therefore good control at high speeds.
All in all, a bike that could also feel at home in the bike park. The solid aluminium frame points in the same direction, and the equipment is also high-quality, but not exactly weight-saving. Even the entry-level model for just 2299 euros features a potent SR Suntour Durolux with 170 millimetres of travel, while a Fox Van steel spring shock manages 165 millimetres at the rear. The drivetrain relies on the affordable but functional Shimano SLX with a 1x11 setup, the FR AMR 4.7 AL rolls on solid M1900 Spline system wheels from DT Swiss and brakes with Magura MT Thirty-Two, the affordable version of the MT-Trail with four-piston anchors at the front and two pistons at the rear.
The mid-range model (FR AMR 6.7 AL) features Fox suspension with a 36 Performance Elite fork and a DHX2 coil shock, as well as slightly better brakes and a Sram GX Eagle. The top-of-the-range FR AMR 8.7 AL model boasts suspension components from Cane Creek, high-quality parts and wheels from Syntace. The whole thing is available for a still comparatively affordable 4199 euros.
All information and data on the new Ghost FR AMR can also be found on the Website of Ghost. The "medium" FR AMR 6.7 model for 3199 euros with Fox equipment weighs 15.5 kilograms. The other two equipment variants are likely to be in similar weight ranges.
