Say "DVO Emerald Coil"! Spoken slowly and clearly, it takes just under two seconds. What does this have to do with the Forestal Siryon? The DVO Emerald Coil is the shock that works at the rear of this e-mountainbike. But the approximately 1.9 seconds have a completely different meaning: it is the airtime - the time in the air - that a certain test rider claims to have collected in a single jump during one of his rides on the new minimal-assist enduro e-bike.
This test rider is almost certainly Rampage, party and freeride legend Cedric Gracia. He is behind the newly founded brand from Andorra, and the Siryon was built according to his ideas. And although the e-bike has obvious taker qualities, as the 1.9-second giant leap shows - even for the Rampage, that wouldn't be a bad figure - one thing impressed us even more on paper. Keyword: system integration and independence.
The Forestal Siryon doesn't want to be like other e-mountainbikes. It wants to be something completely different. Uncompromising, direct, love it or leave it! The aurora-inspired look, the moto-style banana swingarm in the single-pivot rear triangle, steel suspension elements front and rear, a specially developed minimal-assist drivetrain, tyres we've never heard of, a hole in the top tube so that the steel spring damper fits in. Only the drivetrain and brakes are standard components with Sram GX Eagle and Magura MT7, while the seatpost and carbon wheels come from Crankbrothers.
However, the real highlight of the 29-inch E-Enduro is the minimal-assist drive developed by Forestal in cooperation with the E-drive specialist Bafang and the system integration that it makes possible. The Forestal Eon Drive weighs 1.95 kilograms and, with 250 watts of rated power and a maximum torque of 60 Newton metres, is at a very similar level to the Fazua drive. It offers three support modes - Eco, Sport and Race. An additional boost mode called "Nitro" can be activated using a separate button. The in-house Aurora battery provides the power supply. It weighs 1.8 kilograms, cannot be removed and has a capacity of 350 watt hours. If you need more range on long bike tours, you can fit a range extender battery with another 350 watt hours instead of the bottle cage.
Simply remove as with the Lapierre E-Zesty Unfortunately, the motor and battery cannot be controlled from the top tube. The numerous cables disappear neatly into the in-house stem, the system is controlled via a minimalist control unit called "Smart Trigger", the so-called dashboard sits on the top tube: classic tour data such as distance travelled, altitude, speed and power can be read off here. Your own heart rate is also displayed if you connect a corresponding sensor.
Data such as maximum G-forces or the aforementioned maximum airtime, which are also measured by the system, are fun gimmicks. Map-based navigation, on the other hand, is a really useful feature. At least as long as it works properly in practice. The functions of the matching smartphone app should be even more extensive, and direct access to the support chat is even planned. A good idea, after all, the bike and the special drive are not exactly available on every corner.
And now to availability: The Siryon will initially be available as Edition One - Polar Lights in a limited edition of 999 units. To emphasise the exclusivity, the bikes will be numbered consecutively and customers can even choose the corresponding number depending on the sales model. The principle is: first come, first served. The frame is said to weigh just 2.4 kilograms, the complete bike only weighs 17.4 kilograms in size M despite the steel suspension elements and costs 7499 euros if ordered in advance and paid in full. There are also three additional sets of tyres. According to Forestal, these should last for a year. Another clear statement that the Siryon wants to be ridden hard. The first bikes are to be delivered from October.
By the way: If you don't want to pay everything at once, you can also limit yourself to a deposit of 2000 euros, but then the tyre package is not included and the final instalment on delivery of the EMTB is then 5999 euros. In total, this is 500 euros more than a full down payment. You can find all information on the Website of the manufacturer.
