The YT Capra 29 Core 2 impresses with its intuitive handling and can convince in our enduro test up to 4000 euros uphill and downhill.

The good news first: the Capra Core 2 has also been heavily discounted and at 2599 euros is a whole 700 euros below the regular retail price. Unfortunately, only the edge sizes are still available at the moment. Regardless of the spec, the Capra is very popular and we were also impressed by the bike in various tests. The intuitive handling stands out in particular, making you feel comfortable straight away. Time to get used to it? Not a thing! Just sit on it and off you go.

But why is that? A glance at the geometry table reveals that the Capra is free of extremes and is in the average range everywhere. 63 degrees head angle, moderate reach and the wheelbase of the enduro bike from Forchheim is right in the middle. In addition, the Fox Performance suspension works sensitively and is largely forgiving. Only when things really get going do you notice the somewhat short rear suspension travel of just 153 millimetres in direct comparison.

In terms of weight, the YT is one of the heaviest bikes in the comparison. This is not only due to the equipment, but also to the aluminium frame weighing almost four kilos. The Maxxis tyres with their thin Exo carcass add weight to the Capra. The fast rubber compound also differs from the tyres of the competition. Good uphill, but for enduro use we would have liked better puncture protection and a little more damping.

A lazy compromise: The thin dual-compound Exo tyres reduce the weight but lack puncture protection and grip.Photo: Adrian KaetherA lazy compromise: The thin dual-compound Exo tyres reduce the weight but lack puncture protection and grip.

Uphill, the YT is one of the better climbers due to the balanced riding position and the pleasantly smooth rear end even when pedalling. All in all, the Capra is very balanced and wide-ranging.
