Pleasure without remorse, flavour without calories - that's the promise of the half-naked woman in the TV commercial, taking a hearty bite of bread and butter. You can't believe TV adverts, but what about the bike manufacturers? They promise true miracles with their new generation of enduro bikes. Lightweight, easy uphill, fast and safe downhill. In other words: a bike for all occasions, the jack of all trades, the super all-rounder.
The goal is clear: so much suspension travel that there are no limits to the fun factor downhill. And so little weight that you can easily pedal up high mountains. The candidates: Scott certainly has the most unconventional bike in the race: The carbon chassis of the "Ransom" with its massive shock absorber arouses excited interest on every bike trail - the first enduro bike made of plastic. Tough competition for Scott comes from Specialized with the "Enduro" and Fusion with the "Freak". Both bikes are hot contenders for the test victory. Experience from Canada's Northshore, the toughest freeride area in the world, can be found in the newly developed Rocky Mountain "Slayer" and Kona's "CoilAir". With the Trek "Remedy", freerider Cam McCaul even ventures into slopestyle competitions. The BMC "Superstroke" and France's number one manufacturer, Lapierre, are trying to assert themselves with the "VPP" rear triangle system.
