A few years ago, it was either down or up within the bike genres. Real specialists were one-dimensional, wannabe all-rounders were toothless when it came down to it. The new enduro generation can do more. With slim weights, suspension that can be tightened at the flick of a wrist and clever geometry adjustments, the new enduro bikes are vying for the rider's favour.
A few years ago, nobody would have believed that potent suspension with 170 millimetres of travel and a total weight of just 12.65 kilos including pedals was now possible. The bikes in our test field are therefore more versatile than ever. With the majority of the test group, nothing would stand in the way of taking part in an enduro race or an Alpine tour with a climb of over 1500 metres.
What is possible in each bike category is most impressively reflected by the respective top models, the technology leaders of the range. With prices ranging from 4300 to 7999 euros, only exclusive 2015 material arrived for testing. The Santa Cruz Nomad for € 7590, the Specialized S-Works Enduro 650B and the Trek Slash 9.9 for € 7999 each form the price spearhead. As an alternative, we also present the cheaper models of the respective test bikes.
There are only two aluminium models among the eleven test bikes. The GT Sanction and the Müsing Petrol 7 come with an aluminium frame. Full carbon is available from BH, Cannondale, Canyon, Santa Cruz, Scott and Trek. Specialized, Giant and Lapierre combine a carbon main frame with an aluminium rear triangle.
BIKE is available as a digital edition for all devices.
