The Canyon Torque 29 CF 7 has already won a test in BIKE 12/23. Reason enough to put the affordable enduro bike from Koblenz up against fresh competition again.
The Canyon already scored a test victory in the last enduro test in BIKE 12/23, and the affordable enduro bike also scored big in this comparison. The Torque has a long reach and, apart from the Marin, the longest wheelbase in the test field. The chainstays are also on the longer side at 441 millimetres.
All in all, the geometry ensures a high degree of smoothness and gives the rider confidence even in rough, blocked passages, where some other enduro bikes already reach their limits. The rear suspension also impresses with its high absorption capacity and works harmoniously with the Zeb Select+ fork. The only drawback of the Select+ shock from Rockshox is the non-adjustable compression damping for individual fine-tuning.
But the longest travel Canyon with a single crown fork can not only go downhill, it also pedals passably uphill. Thanks to the carbon frame, which weighs less than three kilos, the overall weight is average for the test field.
When pedalling uphill, the rear suspension pumps only slightly and the shock platform works very effectively. When seated, the combination of the 485 reach and steep seat angle positions you balanced on the bike with pressure on the front wheel.
Despite the carbon frame and the lowest price in comparison, the mail-order company doesn't show any weakness in terms of equipment and relies on functional components. Only the DT Swiss freeride wheels with Maxxis double-down rear tyres weigh considerably more than the competition. The main frame is the stiffest and increases steering precision.
At the second attempt, the potent Canyon Torque proves that it doesn't even have to hide from more expensive enduro bikes. The Torque is in its element on fast, rough terrain. Riders looking for a manoeuvrable enduro bike will find more playful bikes.
