Mondraker Foxy Carbon R: the lightweight

In purely nominal terms, due to its 160/150 millimetre travel, the Foxy from Spanish manufacturer Mondraker falls between the all-mountain and enduro categories. Nevertheless, we included the carbon Foxy for 6000 euros in this comparison. At well under 15 kilos, the slim Spaniard keeps the competition, some of whom are three kilos heavier, at bay.

A lightweight carcass with a fast compound was also chosen for the tyres at the front and rear. This is not only noticeable on the laboratory scales, but also impressively on the trail. The Foxy is very responsive on the throttle and converts the rider's impulses without loss. However, the lower puncture protection requires a clean line.

The slightly shorter suspension travel also reinforces the direct feel. The suspension always offers enough counter-pressure, you don't bog down and can move the Foxy very actively. In nasty bumpy sections, the bike with the steepest steering angle in the test field reaches its limits a little earlier, but masters all sections with flying colours.

In addition to the weight, the low frame stiffness of the filigree carbon frame is also noticeable. In direct comparison, the Foxy feels much better, builds up a lot of traction and passes on fewer impacts to the rider. However, heavy riders might find the main frame a little too spongy. Uphill and when touring, the Mondraker plays its weight joker with confidence. Due to the rather slack seat angle, the riding position is slightly sporty, while the long chainstays prevent early rearing up on steep climbs. The component quality is poor.

Conclusion by Laurin Lehner, Deputy Editor-in-Chief FREERIDE

Even with less suspension travel, the Mondraker Foxy can keep up very well and surprised us during testing in the Geißkopf bike park. The low weight extends the range of use. The equipment has little glamour.
