What is typically Swedish? Or rather: Which bicycle manufacturers come from Sweden? Husquarna perhaps, who are now Austrian. But you can hardly think of any more Swedish bike brands off the top of your head. Even fewer people are familiar with Öhlins suspension systems. Detrail Bikes wants to take Sweden further forward. Founded just last year, the direct shipper offers to ship its carbon bikes throughout Europe, including to Germany, for 49 euros. By sea instead of by plane, which is more environmentally friendly - yes, that is perhaps something typically Swedish.
The latest bike is the all-mountain Berg 155, although Detrail Bikes calls it a mini-superenduro. Superlative or not, with 155 millimetres of rear suspension travel and a 160 millimetre suspension fork, the "both/and" categories certainly fit here. The full carbon frame with aluminium rocker and modern geometry is not so much built for ultra-steep downhills from rugged Alpine peaks, but should first and foremost be able to cope with the recurring ups and downs of the Swedish forests. In other words: to be a fun tourer for all kinds of terrain. This is not possible with heavy, sluggish companions, but requires a certain amount of lightness, liveliness and pop.
With a 64 degree head angle, 478 millimetre reach (in size L), 440 chainstays and a 76.5 degree seat angle, the Detrail Berg offers modern enduro dimensions without being extremely long, extremely slack or extremely steep. The idea behind the Detrail Berg 155 is that riding fun on the trail should never be subordinated to high-speed capability.
There is a model for the launch. An online configurator is hinted at, and the press photos already show other (Swedish) suspension elements. So far, however, the first mountain bikes can only be pre-ordered in one configuration. For a deposit of just under 10 per cent of the retail price, you can currently secure one of the first Detrail Berg 155 All Mountain bikes, with the manufacturer promising delivery in March!
The Detrail Berg 155 is now available for pre-order. The retail price is 4599 euros. In addition, the Swedish mail order company already has other bikes in its programme, also made of carbon. The rear suspension travel is in the name: the trail bike Stig 135 (from 3799 euros), the race bike Stig 115 (from 3599 euros) and the trail hardtail Stig - of course, without numbers - which is available from 2599 euros.
