From marathon bike to hardcore enduro - the "Prophet" shows its teeth in the "MX" version.
The "Prophet" had a tough time last year. Due to its suspension travel and the range of use targeted by Cannondale, it was in the Enduro class. But it was simply too light for that. The lightweight wheels in particular limited the "Prophet" compared to the heavier competition on the downhill. But there was also a lot of criticism for the low stiffness values of the rear triangle.
Cannondale's answer to all critics this model year is the "Prophet MX". In order to do justice to the "Enduro" application area, the Americans have equipped the "Prophet" frame with various reinforcements and reorganised the equipment. Instead of lightweight cross-country wheels, the "MX" rides on sturdy Sun Rims rims and thick Maxxis tyres, while the "Lefty" fork has had to make way for a Rock Shox "Pike".
The most important thing: the rear wheel gets a thru axle. The result is a completely new bike. The stiffness values increase significantly to a respectable 52.36 Nm/° - which can also be clearly felt in practice. The "MX" can be precisely manoeuvred into corners. It feels particularly at home on high-speed sections. The long wheelbase makes it feel like a board. The suspension elements harmonise well and the maximum suspension travel is easy to use. The only thing the "Prophet MX" doesn't like is tight corners. This is due to the long wheelbase typical of Cannondale.
The "MX" only has to give up on the climbs. The riding position is also good here, especially as the fork can be lowered. The tyres are the sticking point. As well as the Maxxis "high rollers" claw into the ground downhill, they make life difficult on the climbs. The high total weight of over 15 kilos is even more noticeable. A total weight of significantly less than 15 kilos would be appropriate despite the stable equipment.
CONCLUSION: The "Prophet" has found its purpose in the "MX" version. Stable downhill behaviour, special strengths at high speed. However, it is a little heavy for uphill fun.
