The new Trek Slash 29 - like the Fuel EX and Remedy models - will only be available in one frame version, optimised for one wheel size. Two models are planned that roll exclusively on large wheels.
After abandoning 29-inch wheels on the Remedy, this step comes as a surprise. However, tests with Tracy Moseley and Justin Leov should prove beyond doubt that 29ers are the better choice for enduro racing, roll easier and make the bike faster. Guido Anderwert from Trek explains the most important innovations in the video here:
Like its predecessor, the new Trek Enduro will also be available in two versions, although the full carbon frame is identical. The Slash 9.8 comes with Rock Shox suspension, Sram X1 1x11 drivetrain and Sram Guide R brakes. The top model Slash 9.9 RSL (Race Shop Limited) will be available with Fox suspension, Guide Ultimate Carbon and X01 1x12 Eagle drivetrain from Sram and new Bontrager carbon wheels in the Boost standard.
We have now also received the euro prices: the top version, the Slash 29 9.9 RSL, will cost 7499 euros, while the 9.8 model will be available for 5499 euros according to Trek. The frameset of the new Slash 29 including the Fox Factory Float X2 shock will change hands for 3699 euros.
Trek specifies the weight of the new Slash 29 at around 12.8 kg for the 9.9 RSL, 13.1 kg for the 9.8 model and 2.7 kg for the frameset - in each case based on the 17.5 inch frame size. The new Trek Enduro will be available from October 2016. More information will be available soon at BIKE.
Our first impression: The Slash 29 definitely makes a potent impression and offers key data such as a head angle adjustment of 65.1 or 65.6 degrees and 434 mm or 433 mm chainstay length.
