We have already been able to see the premium version of the new Spectral in BIKE 2/17 The CF 8.0 is now the most affordable carbon model with an aluminium rear triangle. The unique look with the striking seat dome and the beautifully integrated details set the only carbon bike in this test apart from the competition. The Spectral is also ahead in terms of frame weight with 2647 grams (without shock). With a ready-to-ride weight of 13.87 kilos, it ranks second in terms of weight. Wide 2.6 mm Maxxis tyres with a grippy rubber compound and a high front end create an enduro impression. The first few metres on the trail confirm this feeling. Neither the handling nor the extremely potent suspension let the Spectral get away with anything downhill, putting it in first place in the downhill rankings. However, due to the tough rolling tyres and the comfort position, there are sportier bikes on the climbs, even if the sensitive rear suspension is stable and powerful. The borderline low bottom bracket ensures a low centre of gravity.
Test summaryThe potent suspension, the equipment and the geometry move the new Canyon Spectral much closer to an enduro bike. The well thought-out details and function are impressive.
