Get on and feel good: As you would expect from an American manufacturer that has made ergonomics a top priority, everything is in the right place here; the sporty, comfortable handlebar sits comfortably in the hand, the riding position is relaxed but slightly stretched. Even the mini control panel for the motor support on the left grip is a treat for the thumb. The corresponding Specialized motor, weighing less than two kilos, pushes gently and very naturally, but also audibly. It is also optimised for efficiency rather than power and provides reliable support across almost the entire speed range.
It even manages this with a continuous output of 240 watts, ten less than the standard. Although 36 Newton metres of torque may not sound like much, the harmonious control ensures that the rider gets the power they need. Incidentally, the Specialized app was the most convincing in comparison with other apps. This also applies to the customisable display on the top tube. As with the other test bikes, the down tube houses the battery, which has a capacity of 320 watt hours. Unfortunately, it cannot be removed by the user - an entry on the otherwise rather empty negative account of the Specialized Turbo Vado SL. Depending on use, you can cover a good 60 kilometres on a single charge.

The SL is above all a nimble, beautiful and comfortable bike to ride. In addition to its low weight and balanced riding characteristics, this is also due to a detail called Future Shock: a suspension system integrated into the stem that provides the rider with 20 millimetres of comfort and thus takes the fear out of even rough cobblestones. Unlike the suspension fork, it is not the bike that is cushioned, but the rider's upper body. There is no need to worry about the directness of the steering, the bike simply gives the impression of gliding more smoothly around bends on poor terrain. Unlike the suspension fork, the Future Shock does not change the geometry of the bike.
Pleasantly balanced is the Specialised Turbo Vado SL anyway. The same applies here: the real bike feeling is always there, both when pedalling and when handling. The carrier, which is approved for up to 15 kilograms, can carry an office bag or a small shopping bag. Thanks to full road equipment with mudguards and reliable Lezyne lighting, the e-bike is ideal for everyday commuting. But it is also ideal for day trips. In addition to the beautifully crafted frame, the sand yellow matt paint finish is a visual treat for us.
The Specialized Turbo Vado SL is for people who don't want the motor to do all the work. It is a very pleasant commuter and sports bike with playful handling and somewhat audible but very harmonious support that works efficiently.
