Hack on the pedals, leg stretched, and the perfect bike setting is ready. For many people, this is still the individual mountain bike setting. Hands that fall asleep, a sore neck and numb genitals are usually just a side effect. But do they have to be? Basically not, if you listen to the tenor of the bike fitters: cycling should be pain-free, and the material must be adapted and selected for this.
Because, let's be honest, the cramped position on the bike has little in common with a natural posture. The neck is overstretched, the thoracic spine is bent, muscles and tendons are shortened in some areas. Sounds scary, but it doesn't have to be if you change something at the interface between man and machine and at the same time adjust your body muscularly to the bike position. You have to find a compromise: You adjust your body to biking and your bike to your body. Marriage on wheels: Bike fitting is like a marriage between bike and rider. If the two don't fit together, the marriage will fail - that's why we've written you a roadmap to customisation and produced ergonomics videos.
We asked bike fitting experts how to harmonise the contact points saddle, pedals and hands. This is no substitute for a professional bike fitting (to the overview of Bike fitting providers and experts in Germany ). But it's much better than just putting the heel on the pedal.
We have focussed on all aspects of the ergonomics topic "Better biking" created. A large Topic special with ergonomics advice, tests and service stories, the MTB beginners as well as experienced mountain bikers who want to get better on their bikes or are struggling with acute problems.
