From a standing start into the flow
Anyone attempting steep, tricky uphills will sometimes have to dismount involuntarily. Starting off again on the mountain is not rocket science - provided you have the right tricks up your sleeve.

It happens from time to time that you have to dismount on a climb: Lost grip and stopped? Very long uphill and bio-break? Great view and pulled out your mobile phone? Either way, you have to get going again on the climb. But when starting off on steep terrain and in an easy gear, you quickly lose control because the front wheel rises. That's why EMTB expert and Mister Uphillflow, Stefan Schlie, has the following tip for getting going again on the mountain:

Once you have engaged the right gear and lowered the saddle a good distance, position the bike at an angle rather than in the fall line.Photo: Markus Greber Once you have engaged the right gear and lowered the saddle a good distance, position the bike at an angle rather than in the fall line.

In this way, you can trick the steepness and start on flatter terrain, so to speak. An intelligent support level such as the Bosch eMTB mode also helps. The upper foot is on the ground and provides support, the lower crank with the valley foot points forwards and upwards, the brakes are applied.

When setting off, when the mountain foot is placed on the pedal, <a href="https://https//www.bike-magazin.de/emtb/service_wissen/how-to-emtb-uphill-fahrtechnik-2022-video-02-grundtechnik" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">brake management</a> is required: The brake should be released more and more by grinding.Photo: Markus Greber When setting off, when the mountain foot is placed on the pedal, brake management is required: The brake should be released more and more by grinding. Now comes the critical phase. Turn into the bend with your eyes far forward, weight forwards, pedal evenly, but avoid bumps by <a href="https://www.bike-magazin.de/emtb/service_wissen/how-to-emtb-uphill-fahrtechnik-2022-video-06-pedalaufsetzer-vermeiden" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">pedal management</a>.Photo: Markus Greber Now comes the critical phase.
