Winter gloves for mountain bikers put to the test
Good grip despite thick inner lining? Not every manufacturer manages the balancing act between warmth and comfort. We show you which MTB glove is really suitable for winter.

Warm gloves are essential in winter. Your fingers are fully exposed to the wind on the handlebars. If the fingers freeze, riding safety suffers. Braking and changing gear is difficult because your hands only move in slow motion. Not to mention the pain that frosty fingers can cause. With wind-repellent membranes and fluffy linings, bikers are ideally equipped against Father Frost. However, not all models are suitable for temperatures around freezing point.

CHIBA Pro Safety

Price 36,90 Euro
Info www.chiba.de
Weight¹ (L)/sizes 62 grams/6 (XS) - 11 (XXL)
Equipment (10 %) Windproof, water-repellent, fully reflective, silicone print on palm, pulse warmer
RATING
Processing (15 %) 9 out of 10 points
Fit (35 %) 8 out of 10 points

Conclusion The flexible Pro Safety adapts well to the hands. The palm has a good grip, but could be more stable in rough terrain. The inside of the Chiba is lined with soft micro-fleece, but it is still only moderately warm. The fully reflective glove is also recommended for commuters.

GIRO Pivot Glove

Price 79,90 Euro

Weight¹ (L)/sizes 133 grams/7 (XS) - 10.5 (XXL)
Equipment (10 %) Primaloft lining, Velcro fastening, reflective, gel padding, touchscreen fingers

Fit (35 %) 4 out of 10 points
Feel (
35
%) 5 out of 10 points
Temperature range -10 to 0 degrees

Conclusion The Primaloft lining of the Pivot keeps you really warm, the long waistband closes tightly to the jacket but can pinch. The upper material is so stiff that it is difficult to grip the handlebars, brake and gear levers. It is very difficult to get into the glove.

GORE BIKE WEAR Power Trail WS Light Glove

Price 59,90 Euro
Info www.goreapparel.de
Weight¹ (L)/sizes 67 gram/6 - 11
Equipment (10 %) Windstopper, touchscreen fingers, gel padding, wipe thumb, silicone print, reflective
RATING
Processing (15 %) 8 out of 10 points
Fit (35 %) 7 out of 10 points
Feel (
35
%) 6 out of 10 points
Temperature range +5 to +10 degrees

Conclusion The Gore glove fits snugly around the fingers, but is cut very short. The seams on the thumb and index finger interfere with shifting and braking, and the thick padding is a matter of taste. Little grip on the fingers. More of a transitional model.

PEARL IZUMI P.R.O. Softshell Lite Glove

Price 44,95 Euro
Info www.paul-lange.de
Weight¹ (L)/sizes 52 grams/7.5 (XS) - 11 (XXL)
Equipment (10 %) Windproof, water-repellent, silicone prints, wipe thumb, reflective, touchscreen fingers
RATING
Processing (15 %) 7 out of 10 points
Fit (35 %) 9 out of 10 points
Feel (
35
%) 7 out of 10 points
Temperature range 0 to +8 degrees

Conclusion Good fit combined with a clever, very long cuff that also works without Velcro. The direct grip is good, but the grip on the thumb and index finger is quite poor. A thick seam on the thumb is annoying. The softshell outer material also withstands light rain.

ROECKL Ravenstein

Price 49,95 Euro
Info www.bontrager.com

Equipment (10 %) Poron cushioning, Velcro fastening, wipe thumb, reflex, lightweight lining, touchscreen fingers
RATING
Processing (15 %) 10 out of 10 points
Fit (35 %) 9 out of 10 points
Feel (
35
%) 9 out of 10 points
Temperature range +8 to 0 degrees

Conclusion The Ravenstein is highly pre-shaped and therefore fits perfectly and is very comfortable thanks to the soft lining. It offers good grip despite the touchscreen function. The Poron cushioning also works in the cold. The only criticism is the double layer on the palm.
