In winter, warm gloves are a must when cycling, as nobody wants cold fingers. The Kinetixx Luzan features a trigger design and tried-and-tested technologies. We put these winter gloves through their paces.

Our review of the Kinetixx Luzan Winter Gloves answers one of the most frequently asked questions at this time of year: How can cyclists protect their hands from the cold in winter? Kinetixx promotes a warm lining thanks to Primaloft material and good wind protection thanks to the Windstopper membrane from Gore-Tex. The design, which groups three fingers together in a single pocket, is said to retain a particularly high level of warmth. Nevertheless, having the index finger and thumb free is said to ensure good dexterity. We put the Kinetixx Luzan winter gloves through a proper endurance test.

I’ve been using the Kinetixx Luzan winter gloves on my daily commute. During the test period, temperatures often dropped well below freezing. In these conditions, cycling gloves have to perform exceptionally well; otherwise, safety and the enjoyment of cycling are quickly compromised. - Jan Timmermann, BIKE test editor

Heat and control

At this time of year, cold fingers are probably the biggest excuse for not going on longer bike rides. The Luzan combats this inner reluctance with a thick Primaloft lining and a Gore-Tex Windstopper membrane. The so-called ‘Trigger’ design groups three fingers together to retain heat, whilst the index finger and thumb are enclosed individually. We put the gloves through their paces over hundreds of icy kilometres and can confirm that the Kinetixx ultimately delivers excellent warmth. An extended cuff prevents cold spots from forming around the sensitive wrist area. Due to the design, the grip on the handlebars isn’t quite as direct as you’d expect from slimmer gloves, but the compromises in terms of grip and braking control are pleasingly minimal. Thanks to the silicone print, your hands won’t slip even in wet conditions, and the touchscreen functionality works well in practice. The large reflective elements at the tips of the gloves are a nice touch. They help cyclists feel safe even when out on the roads.

Conclusion

As a winter glove, the Kinetixx Luzan I’m thoroughly impressed. The Trigger design works well for cycling to work and for mountain biking, and the protection against the cold and wind is impressive.
