Warm on the outside and grippy on the inside. That's how you could describe the perfect winter gloves for mountain bikers in a nutshell. However, good protection against the cold cannot always be reconciled with a pleasant grip or high wearing comfort. Our comparison of ten current models clarifies which glove performs best on the trail. Today: the Endura MT500 Freezing Point Waterproof Glove in the test.

Equipment

The Scots send the MT500 put their warmest winter gloves to the test. Not only are they completely windproof, they are also waterproof and fully lined with Primaloft. The ideal basis for riding in bad weather. To ensure that the grip on the handlebars is not lost even in the rain, the inside is lavishly coated with silicone - the palm and index and middle fingers provide plenty of grip.

The smartphone can also be operated with the thumb and index finger. The towelling trim on the thumb also lives up to its name and dries even the biggest snotty noses. To make it easier to get into the glove, the sufficiently long cuff is also equipped with a Velcro fastener. This should also make the MT500 easy to fit under a jacket.

Weather protection

Oops, mini-tool fell into a puddle! That's no problem with the Endura, as the MT500 winter gloves are completely waterproof. So you can confidently ride through pouring rain. Even the wind can't harm the glove. However, the DWR coating of the MT500 does give some cause for criticism: only the fingers allow water to roll off. The rest of the material and especially the soft terrycloth thumb greedily soak up raindrops. This is of course somewhat detrimental to the insulation, because a damp glove also cools down more quickly. Fortunately, the MT500 is already heavily lined, so it can compensate for this effect somewhat. With a little spray impregnation, the glove's weather protection could easily be polished up. The first impression is confirmed in the cold check: the MT500 is not one of the warmest models in the test. However, it should be sufficient for most bikers up to the zero-degree limit.

Fit

Even with the climbing bar open, it is difficult to get into the MT500. It takes a while for fingers and metacarpus to find their way through the puffy lining. But then the Endura fits inconspicuously well. Seams are not noticeable here. Thanks to large silicone prints, the grip on the handle is extremely good and the controls can also be operated properly. Despite the rather thick lining, the feeling in the fingers is retained. As with many other gloves insulated on both sides, the individual layers slip slightly against each other. However, the effect is limited. This makes the MT500 a good choice for trail rides on cold, damp days.

Conclusion: Endura MT500 Freezing Point waterproof glove

Solid bad weather winter gloves for temperatures down to freezing point. Getting into the puffy-lined glove is a little awkward - despite the Velcro fastener. However, once all the fingers are in the right place, the MT500 offers a good and grippy feel on the handlebars. Features and workmanship are good. Unfortunately only available in black and without reflective tape.
