SunGod is expanding its performance portfolio and is launching the Velans 2, an advanced sports goggle on the market. The new model builds on its predecessor, but makes noticeable improvements in terms of weight, vision and fit: The Velans 2 is said to weigh just 26 grams and uses 8KO nylon lenses, which, according to the manufacturer, should provide up to 70 per cent clearer vision than classic polycarbonate lenses.

British eyewear manufacturer SunGod continues to develop its Velans model. The new version is based on the design worn by riders at the Olympic Games and World Championships. Tom Pidcock won gold in the mountain bike race at the Olympic Games in Paris with the previous model.

Underwire and fit

The revised temples use a new profile with stabilising fins. This design was developed following tests with athletes from the sponsored teams. The pop-lock hinges reinforce the connection between the temple and frame. The total weight is 26 grams.

Lenses and ventilation

All variants of the Velans 2 use 8KO nylon lenses. According to the manufacturer, the material provides 70 per cent clearer vision than standard polycarbonate lenses. The wraparound shape covers a large field of vision. Integrated ventilation openings in the lens profile are designed to prevent fogging. The 8KO IRIS photochromic lens, which automatically adapts to changing light conditions, is available as an alternative.

Material and warranty

The frame is made from Infinite Recycled Material. According to the manufacturer, this recycled material has a CO2 footprint seven times lower than that of conventional plastic. SunGod is certified as a B Corporation. All Velans 2 are covered by the manufacturer's lifetime guarantee. In the event of damage or breakage, SunGod will repair or replace the glasses free of charge.

Colours and prices

The Velans 2 is available in seven colour variants: Black Smoke, White Gold, Neon Yellow, Neon Blue, Black, Glacier Blue and Black Forest Green. Customisation is possible for an additional charge. Riders from INEOS Grenadiers, SD Worx-Protime and Unibet Rose Rockets are already using the model.
