When things get tricky, even professionals take their hands off the handlebars - and grab branches, thorns or sharp edges. Lucky are those who wear bike gloves with long fingers.

The narrower the trail, the closer the trees and undergrowth whizz past the handlebar ends. Touching them feels like being hit by a whip. But it's not just here that long fingers are useful - they also take the sting out of many a fall. The gloves in the test field cover all areas of use: Freeriders are protected by carbon plates, racers will find ultra-lightweight products and tourers avoid tingling hands thanks to ergonomic padding. It is important to try on your favourite glove in the shop, because if the fit is not right, even the best glove is no fun.
