Whether short or long - when it comes to cycling trousers, the right garment underneath is often decisive for a comfortable ride.

Trekkingbike subjected 20 cycling shorts with seat padding to a long-term test. However, wearing comfort, fit and quality are quite different in some cases.

The seat pad, whether sewn or glued in, is the most important detail of the inner cycling shorts. In the past, the seat was usually made of leather, but today the much thicker insert consists of several layers of synthetic material padded with gel inserts, foam or air chambers.

The cut of the pad is based on the gender-specific anatomy, i.e. the insert is visibly wider and longer in men's trousers. High-quality pads prevent heat build-up and are cut from antibacterial material with as few seams as possible. The following does not apply: a lot helps a lot. This is because overly thick pads lead to increased friction and thus to skin irritation.
