Winter trousers are supposed to make biking in frosty temperatures bearable. But which trousers really keep you warm? Classic bibtights or casual softshell trousers? We slipped into 12 models.

Lukas is still having a good laugh. Grinning broadly, he toasts the upcoming departure with his buddy Felix. But while the tiled stove is crackling cosily in the warm living room, the mercury is already dropping rapidly towards freezing point outside. One of the two skiers is about to find out for himself just how quickly the frosty pleasure of a wintry descent can literally turn into a shivering party. We wanted to know which winter trousers warm bikers best and invited six models with a wide fit and six with a tight fit to the test. The choice of winter trousers for women is clearly limited. Of the models we tested, just four are also available in a women's version. We have labelled these separately in the test boxes.

Whether for men or women - the requirements for winter trousers are complex in any case, as the differences between body and ambient temperature are particularly large in winter. Of course, first and foremost, long winter trousers should keep the legs at operating temperature. To achieve this, manufacturers use brushed softshell or windstopper materials on the inside.
