After wet comes cold, especially when cycling. During breaks or long descents, a sweaty bike jersey makes you freeze faster. A wind jacket protects us from the wind chill effect. We tested 12 models, from super light to extra weatherproof. In this article, we present the Vaude Kuro Air - a wind jacket made from recycled material for touring and trail biking.

The Women's version of the Vaude Wo Kuro Air differs minimally in the arrangement of the pockets and the ventilation zones.

Vaude Kuro wind jacket - Features

The outdoor experts from Lake Constance tailor the Kuro wind jacket from recycled materials. Although the Vaude is no longer a real lightweight, it scores points with a few harmonious details. Wide stretch cuffs enclose the wrists tightly and comfortably. Compared to many of its competitors, the collar closes much higher. In addition to the wind-permeable areas under the arms and on the upper back, the mesh pockets can also be used for ventilation. Three pockets offer plenty of space for accessories. The women's version has a small zip pocket on the side of the lower back instead of the chest pocket.

Weather protection

The Kuro still repels light drizzle well. However, the Vaude won't keep you dry in a real shower. Because the ventilated zones also offer a certain degree of wind protection, the Kuro is also good for travelling on very windy days.

Wearing comfort

Even though Vaude describes the cut of the Kuro Air wind jacket as slim fit, material could be saved, especially at the waist. The rear, on the other hand, could be longer. The jacket feels more at home on trail laps than at the start of a marathon. The less rugged material is extremely comfortable to wear and doesn't get too sweaty even with an active riding style. However, the main material lacks any stretch, which somewhat restricts mobility at the chest and shoulders. The numerous ventilation options have a positive effect on the uphill. Top, the high collar closes neatly but not too tightly.

Handling

Although the Kuro can be easily crumpled into the breast pocket, it is not a real transport bag. The double-sided zip is missing. It's a shame, because this would have made it easier to keep the jacket tidy in the rucksack. The zips run smoothly and can also be opened with one hand while travelling.

Conclusion on the Vaude Kuro Air wind jacket in the test

Great cuffs, high collar and comfortable, barely rustling material - touring bikers in particular should feel at home in the Kuro. Numerous ventilation zones ensure a good climate. With a little stretch, the Vaude would fit even more closely to the body - the cut is particularly wide at the waist. The robust material puts pressure on the scales, which is why the Kuro* rather something for the rucksack and there are also more suitable models for racers.
