Short-sleeved jersey and bike shorts from Satini

Stone unisex jerseyPhoto: SatiniStone unisex jersey

Skin-tight - for many, gravel biking is too conventional. The combination of a stretch jersey and wide trousers as an expression of the spirit of adventure is becoming increasingly common. Satini offers a combination that we really liked. The Stone unisex jersey is incredibly comfortable, especially in the heat, and is light as a feather and virtually imperceptible. Together with the robust, dirt and water-repellent Fulcro trousers, this makes for a functional but stylish set in sizes from XS to XXXXL. The jersey costs 95 euros and is available, for example, from Bobshop available.

Flexible and cool on the upper body, durable and casual on the legs, each in three matt trendy colours. Price for trousers: 90 euros >> e.g. available here.

Jack Wolfskin longsleeve and shorts

Jack Wolfskin has entire collections dedicated to bikepacking. The Gravex series consists of tights, shorts, jerseys, waistcoats, etc. in contrasting colours that still match. The FZ longsleeve fits close to the body but is not skin-tight, it is long-sleeved but not too warm, so you can use the sleeves on a cool evening ride or as protection against contact with hedges, for example. The Longsleeve costs 99.95 euros. The colour-matching shorts could be perfectly combined with the Gravex tight including seat pad in rust brown. The shorts are available from Jack Wolfskin for 89,95 Euro available. Complete outfits in understated designs and cuts, for men and women.

How do you like this article?

If you're out and about for a long time, the weather can change from time to time. When it suddenly gets colder, a gilet is still the first choice. We discovered a warm aid with a really small pack size at AGU. It is not only practical, but also suitable for going out, meaning it also looks good for a café or a stroll through town. In addition to the three pockets, it even has a hood that fits under a helmet in an emergency. Unisex in XS-XXXL, two colours.

Totally versatile, easy to transport and a great match for the natural Gravellook, made from recycled nylon! Price: 140 euros >> e.g. at Tradeinn available.

Lightweight windbreaker from Vaude

Outdoor outfitter Vaude has also discovered sporty bikers. We particularly liked the Kuro Air wind jacket, which is lightweight, packs down small and has a clever cut. Overlong at the back, it protects your back and bum at the same time, it fits snugly around the torso without flapping, but it is slightly wider at the arms, making it much easier to put on than you are used to. The upper back and cuffs are much more stretchy, making it easy to get into a sporty position. It keeps the wind out perfectly.

Breathable windstopper with well thought-out cut, part of a collection in various plain colours. Price: 120 Euro >> e.g. available here.

Smart bike shirt from Gobik

Volt jersey from GobikPhoto: GobikVolt jersey from Gobik

From the outside, it's just a loose-fitting functional shirt for bikers, recognisable by the slightly longer cut and the three pockets on the back. The very smart highlight is on the inside: Because their contents dangle wildly back and forth on the loose-fitting fabric, the Volt jersey has a wide elasticated waistband (detailed image) which, when closed, pulls the stowed load against the body and holds it in place without disturbing the casual look. When the pockets are empty, the ends of the open strap can be fastened with press studs. The 145 g lightweight unisex shirt is available in three colours and from XXS to XXL. A great idea! Price: 88 euros.

Really useful jersey pockets on an airy shirt, a really smart solution!

Cycling shoes for gravel bikes

Discreet cycling shoe from Vaude

MTB Kuro from VaudePhoto: VaudeMTB Kuro from Vaude

With the MTB Kuro, Vaude offers a shoe with a semi-rigid sole that performs well on the bike - with or without clipless pedals - but also allows for short distances on foot. The classic lacing system and perforated leather are hardly noticeable and keep your feet equally comfortable when cycling and walking. This means you don't necessarily have to take a casual shoe with you when travelling by bike. In contrast to the latter, the Kuro prevents numb feet caused by punctual pressure from the pedals. SPD compatible.

Good grip when used with click pedals, pre-curved sole for walking, high-quality, unobtrusive look, size 36 to 48. shoe: 150 euros >> available from Rose.

High-tech MTB shoe from AGU

M810 from AGUPhoto: AGUM810 from AGU

If you want to gravel ambitiously, there's no getting round click pedals and sturdy, lightweight shoes. In addition to power transmission, comfort and weight are also important. At AGU, we found the M810 to be a seamless shoe with a stiff carbon sole and two BOA lacing systems. The twist mechanisms distribute the tensile forces perfectly across the instep and can be quickly tightened or widened while riding. Tip: The AGU latex overshoes keep water and dirt out of the mechanics and interior.

Seamless foot flatterer, stiff lightweight sole with SPD thread, grippy profile, BOA lacing. Shoe price: 170 Euro >> available here| Price overshoe: 40 Euro >> available here

Gravel accessories: Goggles & helmets

Protective goggles and sunglasses from Rudy Project

Kelion from Rudy ProjectPhoto: Rudy ProjectKelion from Rudy Project

Sun protection and good ventilation are the be-all and end-all when it comes to cycling goggles, but physical protection of the eyes is also very important for gravel biking. The Kelion from Rudy Project with its narrow, cylindrical shape fits snugly around the face and seals almost tightly, preventing foreign bodies and dust from entering. Three holes in the lens and a perforation in the frame provide sufficient air to prevent fogging. The curved shape also ensures a very clear all-round view. Thanks to the quick lens change, the Kelion can be worn in all light conditions and there is a corrective insert for spectacle wearers. The Kelion goggles from Rudy Project are available e.g. from Sport-Schuster from 142.99 euros.

Large unobstructed field of vision, weighing only 36 g, top eye protection and ventilation.

Gravel helmet with additional functions from POC

Omne Ultra from POCPhoto: POCOmne Ultra from POC

The Omne Ultra from POC is one of the most customised helmets ever. In addition to its safety function with MIPS inner system against rotational injuries and Rocco reflector to make it easier to find after a crash, the slim helmet has various attachment options, e.g. for a rain cover, sunglasses, energy gel or other lightweight small items. The POC patch (pictured) can be replaced with a customised one, such as a team logo for a race. The 390 gram lightweight helmet is available in five designs and three sizes (50-61 cm). Price: 220 euros >> available here.

Gravel helmet from Abus

The Stormchaser Ace helmet, which Abus has manufactured in Italy, weighs just 220 grams. Thanks to the shimmering metallic outer chassis, which is completely wrapped around the lower edge and into the ventilation holes, it looks particularly solid and high-quality. This makes it just ten grams heavier than the Abus top model, similarly well ventilated and, according to the manufacturer, particularly suitable for cross and gravel riding. The current five colours are available in three sizes (51-61 cm). Price: 149.99 euros >> e.g. available from Rose.
