Snow-covered, icy mountain bike trails are a real challenge for your riding technique. Even if your hands are not in bulky ski gloves. As an alternative, various manufacturers offer lined MTB gloves for winter. But is it worth investing in a special pair for the winter months? To find out, we took a look at the Brisker from the Californian motocross label 100% a closer look.
The Brisker is available in either neon yellow or plain black for 30 euros. The palm is made of synthetic leather and is equipped with silicone for a better grip on the handlebars. A soft softshell material on the top keeps the hand warm and dry. Reflective prints ensure visibility in traffic on dull winter days. The obligatory towelling thumb absorbs perspiration. The index finger and thumb are touchscreen-compatible for smartphone-using bikers. According to the motto: If it's not on Strava, it never happened! To keep the snow where it belongs, a small Velcro fastener closes the cuffs. However, these could be a little longer on a winter glove.
You notice them immediately when you slip them on: The gloves are very soft and comfortable to wear. Almost too comfortable for a winter glove. However, many people will love them for this comfort, because once they are on, they are immediately forgotten. Even on long rides, nothing pinches or rubs. From the outside, the Brisker looks like a normal summer glove. And indeed, at temperatures below freezing, Father Frost strikes mercilessly and freezes the fingers. The brake finger in particular suffers. The only thing that helps here is intensive strain, such as riding uphill, surfing trails with pressure on the pedals or conquering the next mountain on touring skis. With such strenuous activities, you can endure temperatures down to minus five degrees, but at lower temperatures your fingers quickly become very cold.
The 100% Brisker proved to be an all-round glove for mild winter days when outdoor sports are still fun. With its comfortable fit, it is suitable for the daily commute to work as well as for all sports outside the warmth of the four walls.
