Even under casual freeride trousers, the tight Lycra is usually still in place. No other accessory offers more riding comfort. Eight cycling shorts for women put to the test.

New trousers, new luck? It's usually like this: we have at least three pairs of cycling shorts hanging in our wardrobe. But apart from our favourite pair of shorts, hardly any of them make it onto the dusty trails. In most cases, this piece of gold has no straps and comes in plain black. They look great with everything and also give you a slender leg. What's more, the tight Lycra tends to disappear under casual shorts for hip female bikers anyway.

At the top of the female comfort wish list are cosy cuffs on the legs and stomach. Scratchy seams are a no-no! The padding should always be slim and flat. Straps are rarely found on ladies' trousers. Although they usually fit better and also keep the kidneys warm. But who wants to stand naked in the woods during a pee break? The pit stop systems from Gore, Pearl Izumi and Protective can help here. These models can be conveniently divided in the middle and pushed down using a zip or a double fabric panel.

By the way: white trousers are chic. However, when it rains, they usually show more than you would like.
