This week, Cube is unveiling its new range of bikes – from 32-inch bikes and models featuring new motors to completely revamped MTB platforms. Among the new releases is also the new, compact 20-inch city bike Cube Compact Hybrid 540 with a redesigned frame. The price: 2,499 euros.
In our opinion, this is the perfect time to snap up a clearance item from the 2026 predecessor Compact Hybrid 545 to snap up. If you’re lucky, you might still find models online for just under 2,000 euros – making them a cheaper alternative to the new model.
The Compact Hybrid Comfort 545 has many unique selling points. With its small 20-inch wheels, it’s significantly more agile than traditional city e-bikes, takes up little space and, thanks to its one-size-fits-all design, is suitable for riders of different heights. The Bosch Performance Line motor provides powerful propulsion, the Shimano Nexus hub gear system reduces maintenance requirements, and the well-rounded spec makes this compact bike instantly suitable for everyday use. Those looking for maximum range or a high load capacity will need to opt for larger alternatives. For city use, camping, short commutes and anyone with limited parking space, however, the CUBE offers a compelling all-round package.
The Compact Hybrid is based on a clear concept: maximum practicality for everyday use with minimum space requirements. The low step-through frame makes it easy to get on and off, whilst its compact dimensions simplify transport, storage and handling. Thanks to the adjustable handlebars and saddle, the bike is suitable for riders of various heights, ranging from 1.60 to 1.90 metres.
The Bosch Performance Line motor, with 75 Nm of torque, provides powerful assistance when setting off and accelerates the compact bike with ease on commutes or up hills. The 545 Wh battery integrates seamlessly into the overall design, is easily accessible behind the seat tube and offers sufficient power for everyday use. The Bosch Smart System and the eBike Flow app further expand the range of functions offered by the drive system.
CUBE combines the Bosch drive with a Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub gear system. Experience has shown that the gearbox works very well with the powerful motor and is particularly impressive due to its robustness and low maintenance requirements. Shimano hydraulic disc brakes ensure reliable stopping power in all weather conditions and for riders of all weights. Mudguards, lights, a luggage rack and a side stand are all included as standard.
A matching front luggage rack from our own Acid brand can be fitted as an aftermarket accessory, expanding your carrying capacity. The mounting points are already provided on the head tube. The Speedlifter stem can be adjusted to suit different rider heights without the need for tools, whilst the lower setting also makes transport easier. The wide Schwalbe Super Moto X tyres enhance comfort and riding safety on rough tarmac as well as on gravel tracks.
The Compact Hybrid Comfort 545 is aimed at short-distance commuters, holidaymakers and city dwellers who are looking for an e-bike that takes up as little space as possible whilst offering great practicality for everyday use. Thanks to its low step-through frame and generous adjustment options, this compact bike is also ideal as a family bike that can be used by several people. Anyone who regularly takes their e-bike on holiday or has limited storage space at home will also benefit from its compact design. However, the CUBE is less suitable for frequent riders with high expectations regarding range and comfort, sporty touring cyclists or users who regularly carry heavy loads. E-bikes with larger wheels are better suited to these situations.
The Compact Hybrid Comfort 545 occupies an exciting niche between a classic city e-bike and a folding bike. It saves space and impresses with its well-thought-out specifications and clever features. Anyone looking for the most compact e-bike possible without a folding mechanism will find this an interesting and, at the same time, affordable solution.
