As an active racer, all-rounder John Tomac shone in both cross-country and downhill races. In keeping with his wide-ranging background, the Carbide XC doesn't just feel at home on the race track. Despite its long top tube and race-ready equipment, the Tomac has balanced handling and, thanks to its 620 mm handlebar width, conveys a sense of security. The carbon front triangle not only looks flawless, but also feels very stiff and precise.
Although the rear suspension only has 90 millimetres of travel, the Fox suspension harmonises very well and feels like more. Small bumps are absorbed sensitively - yet the efficient rear end remains extremely composed even without a pedal platform. With full XT equipment and large disc brakes, the Carbide XC is on a solid level and offers sufficient comfort on long tours. Another positive aspect: 1599 euros for the frame is more than fair.
The only point of criticism: If you handle a large water bottle, you will touch the lockout lever of the shock.
CONCLUSION: Serious marathon fully with a beautifully finished carbon frame. A bike that is also a lot of fun to ride on trails.
TUNING TIP: No tuning necessary.
