Specialised Epic Comp 29er
The Epic Comp 29er from Specialized is a well-balanced, racy 29er with favourable equipment and sensible details.

As a big player when it comes to large wheels, the Specialized developers around Eric Schuda have developed a feel for the details that make a good 29er. Be it the adapted gear ratio with a 24:38 crank, the wider rear hub for a stiffer wheel or the large end caps on the front hub for more steering precision.
end caps on the front hub for more steering precision. The geometry and handling of the Epic also appear more mature and provide a balanced riding experience both uphill and downhill. With so much attention to detail, however, we missed a larger brake disc on the front wheel. Compared to the Giant, the Epic rear suspension with adjustable Brain shock is significantly firmer. This gives the Specialized more feedback, but offers less comfort on tours. The spec is rather below average.
