Simplon's new "Stomp" carbon fibre fully has caused a stir in the scene. Super-light, super-stiff, plus flawless workmanship with lots of clever details. The Austrians have done a great job. The modular bike clearly shows how much the overall impression depends on the chosen equipment. Due to its relatively heavy wheels and high cockpit, the bike isn't the best climber or the fastest sprinter in the test group. It doesn't make the most super-sporty impression - but that shouldn't be taken as a criticism. The package is characterised by a pleasant balance, which will certainly appeal to a larger target group than professional racers. No one needs to worry about being unintentionally put into a racing suit. The riding position is long but comfortable. You can immediately feel that you are riding a fully: the very sensitive rear end is a joy to ride uphill and, unlike some of its competitors, also cushions small bumps. Downhill, the "Stomp" is one of the best: "Hold on and go full throttle", says one test letter. The "Stomp" has a stable ride and precise steering, it has a high limit range and large suspension reserves. Similar to the Scott "Spark", it could also do with a longer fork, preferably with level control and lockout on the handlebars. The bike is close to the "All Mountain Sport" category. Good: five frame sizes!
CONCLUSIONThanks to the powerful suspension, the "Stomp" is a marathon tourer with great potential. Together with Scott, the winning bike!
