Shimano is setting new standards in the field of competition-orientated mountain bike components with the introduction of the first wireless version of its XTR groupset. The new electronic shifting system marks a significant milestone in the development of high-precision shifting systems for demanding cross-country and marathon races. BH Bikes gives its Lynx SLS and Race models a Shimano XTR update.
The centrepiece of the innovation is the newly designed rear derailleur, which is equipped with a fully integrated and protected battery. This design is not only intended to ensure the power supply, but also to protect the sensitive electronics from external influences. Another highlight is the automatic shock absorption system, which has been specially developed for extreme operating conditions. According to Shimano, the response speed of the shifting system reaches a new level and redefines the understanding of shifting precision in the mountain bike segment.
Particular attention was paid to the design of the gear lever. The new version is not only more ergonomic, but also offers extensive customisation options. As an innovative function, Shimano is introducing a configurable third button that allows external devices such as Garmin bike computers to be controlled directly from the handlebars.
This integration aims to optimise connectivity and operability during the race and give the rider more control over their equipment. In terms of brakes, the new XTR groupset relies on a particularly lightweight version of the disc brakes. The combination of carbon brake levers and two-piston brake callipers has been specially designed for the requirements of cross-country Olympic (XCO) and marathon races, where every gram of weight saving counts and reliable braking performance is essential at the same time.
The Spanish bike brand BH is now integrating them into the top versions of its Lynx SLS and Lynx Race model series. Both models are characterised by the use of the lightest frames in their respective series. BH relies on the company's most advanced carbon technology, the so-called E-CL (Evo Carbon Layup).
This technology makes it possible to maximise the weight reduction of the frames without compromising on stiffness and stability. The integration of the electronic Shimano XTR groupset not only brings functional advantages, but also significantly improves the aesthetics of the bikes. The elimination of mechanical cables results in a clearer and more modern appearance that emphasises the aggressive lines of the models and reflects the attention to detail for which BH is known.
With the integration of the new XTR groupset, BH is expanding the range of its Lynx SLS and Lynx Race series to ten different equipment variants each. This expansion makes it possible to cover a wider price range than ever before. The aim is to offer the right model for every requirement - from ambitious racers to price-conscious technology enthusiasts. The variety of equipment options underlines BH's endeavour to cater to the different needs and preferences of mountain bike enthusiasts. Both model ranges have already proven themselves at the highest level in international competitions. With the integration of the wireless XTR groupset, BH reaffirms its commitment to continue to bring first-class bikes with the latest technology to the market and to continuously push the boundaries of what is technically feasible in the mountain bike segment.
The new XTR groupset from Shimano is characterised by a series of technical innovations that are specially tailored to the requirements of competition-oriented mountain biking. The integration of the wireless XTR groupset in the BH Lynx SLS and Lynx Race models has a significant impact on the handling and overall performance of the bikes. The elimination of the mechanical cables not only reduces the overall weight of the bikes, but also improves the aerodynamics. The electronic gear shifting enables more precise and faster gear changes, which is particularly advantageous in technically demanding passages or when suddenly changing speed. The combination of the lightweight E-CL carbon frame and the XTR groupset results in particularly agile and responsive riding behaviour. This is particularly important in XCO races, where quick changes of direction and explosive acceleration are required.
