As in the previous year, the carbon fibre frame of the Spark 35 takes the crown for the lightest frame (1922 grams without shock). However, the carbon frame with aluminium rear triangle only ranks in the midfield in terms of stiffness. Rock Shox's 120-millimetre Reba fork and the DT shock (115 millimetres) can be hardened quickly and easily using the Twinlock lever. The extra travel was not a disadvantage on the long climbs of our test lap, but the rear suspension reacts extremely sensitively on the open road. The balanced, sporty riding position suits the philosophy of the bike with the longest travel in the test. The fork and rear suspension make the Spark a potent, not too stiff marathon racer. The catch comes with the componentry: here you have to pay for the frame with a wild mix of components and cheap tyres.
Conclusion: shapely carbon bike with a balanced plus in suspension travel; weak equipment.
+ Carbon fibre frame
+ Lightweight frame
+ 120-millimetre fork
- Favourable equipment
