Sit on it and feel good. The NPL-500 combines a propulsive riding position with a wide and therefore safe cockpit. The rear suspension is sufficiently sensitive, but remains calm and neutral in all pedalling sections, even without a platform. Downhill, the rear surprises with a generous 123 millimetres of travel, even on rough terrain, and still harmonises with the short 100 mm Fox fork thanks to the good progression towards the end of the travel. On the other hand, the Race King tyres, which roll easily but are quickly overtaxed on deep ground, have little all-round qualities. The spec is one of the best in the price range.
CONCLUSIONS: The NPL-500 is recommended for marathon to touring use thanks to its favourable riding position and top equipment.
TUNING TIP: grippier tyres for better all-round properties.
