In terms of riding position, this is a race-orientated fully with a firm rear triangle but noticeable drive influences. The equipment lags behind the very light frame.

With Julien Absalon as the driving force, Orbea is racking up one racing success after another. However, in addition to the hardtail weapon favoured by the Olympic champion, the Spaniards also have a genuine race fully in their range with the Oiz Carbon. The carbon frame, which weighs just 1882 grams, manages without an additional joint behind the bottom bracket and works via the flex of the flattened chainstays. In addition, the down tube has been moulded wide to act as a splash guard. Despite having by far the lightest frame, the complete bike weighs the most and therefore falls short of its potential. The high frame price of 2399 euros - the complete bike costs only 600 euros more - provides the answer.

The Orbea cruises along the trails in a sporty, stretched-out manner. The long wheelbase and heavy wheels make for a smooth, less agile character. The rear triangle reacts to hard pedalling with noticeable bobbing and tightens up. Although the rear end responds relatively sensitively, the short 78 millimetre travel offers little reserves when things get really bumpy.

CONCLUSION: A race-orientated fully in terms of riding position with a firm rear end, but noticeable drive influences. The equipment lags behind the very light frame.

TUNING TIP: fit wider handlebars and slim down the wheels.
