66 per cent of our readers stated in a survey that they could do without the turbo support of classic e-MTB drives if they could get a significantly lighter bike in return. However, only ten per cent could imagine smaller batteries. The iLynx from the Spanish brand BH fulfils precisely these needs. They combine a minimalist, toned-down motor with a battery capacity of 540 watt hours. The result is an 18.2-kilo racer. Compared to other light e-MTBs, 540 watt hours is a lot. Levo SL (320 Wh), Rotwild R.X 375 (375 Wh) and the Fazua bikes (252 Wh) come with significantly smaller batteries and therefore a shorter range. The Spaniards have knitted a slim race bike around this drive concept, which is clearly based on the non-motorised Lynx.
Our test bike, the iLynx Race LT, is a slightly upgraded version of the racer with 120 instead of 100 millimetres of travel at the front and rear as well as a telescopic seat post. In the non-motorised world, this would place the bike in the newly defined down-country category. In the e-bike sector, this LT version makes much more sense than the iLynx with its rigid seatpost, even less travel and steeper steering angle.
Why not free of charge? Because quality journalism has a price. In return, we guarantee independence and objectivity. This applies in particular to the tests in EMTB. We don't pay for them, but the opposite is the case: we charge for them, namely tens of thousands of euros every year.
