We included the racefully, which costs just 3299 euros, as a reference model in the test field, which in some cases was over twice as expensive. As a bonus, Lapierre at least gave us the automatic E:i-Shock system, which is actually only available from the 729 model upwards. Due to the price, the equipment and weight are significantly lower. However, we wouldn't have expected 13.14 kilos here either, which means that the propulsion of the French bike suffers noticeably. In automatic mode, the rear suspension remains closed during the entire serpentine climb. Even in the rocky sections, where we would have liked a little more traction. However, the automatic mode provides perfect support on the subsequent descent, which is peppered with short counter-climbs. The long chainstays make it difficult to lift the front wheel of the smooth-running XR. Heavier riders might miss the stiffness.
ConclusionHigh weight and low frame stiffness noticeably slow down the affordable XR 629.
The alternative: If you can do without the E:i-Shock, you can get the better-equipped 729 for as little as 4000 euros.
