"Great design", "looks good" - praised the testers. KTM has an ambiguous saying: "You get a lot for your money." At 13.5 kilos, the Phinx is the heaviest bike in the test group. However, the heavy frame is equipped with all the useful details. For the shock, the product managers did not opt for a standard platform model but for a lockable DT Swiss. With the suspension completely locked out, you can sprint up asphalt mountains like a racing bike, the bike manoeuvres easily through the singletrack. Reader tester Bernd attests to the Phinx's "pleasant geometry". However, the short wheelbase and steep steering angle result in nervous downhill behaviour. "I miss some riding fun uphill and downhill," Stefan judges. Before you can push the suspension to the limit, you've already grabbed the brakes. More smoothness wouldn't hurt. The equipment with the complete Shimano SLX groupset plus XT rear derailleur is good.
ConclusionThe Phinx is a manoeuvrable sports tourer that loves winding trails more than full-throttle passages.
PLUS clipless pedals included, lockout remote control, frame size up to 57 cm, Shadow Plus rear derailleur
MINUS Heaviest bike in the test, short seatpost
The alternative
With the Phinx, it's worth taking a look at the € 3199 top model with Fox suspension and Shimano XT components. It is 300 grams lighter (manufacturer's specification), while the frame and geometry remain the same.
