The stealth bomber among the bikes: the cool carbon look of the Zaskar makes the bike a real eye-catcher. The carbon chassis is relatively light and sufficiently stiff. Compared to the 26-inch (BIKE 2/12 ->), however, the 29er weighs 1.5 kilos more. For 4299 euros, you get Fox suspension, DT wheels and a Shimano XT groupset, which is no bargain - 29ers are simply an expensive taste. The price is forgotten within the first few metres of singletrack: as with the 26-inch Zaskar 100, the riding characteristics of the 29er are also impressive. A bike made for the trail. Downhill, the suspension is plush and can cope with high speeds. The relaxed, uncluttered riding position plays its part in building confidence. Uphill, however, the heavy wheels, the high front end (turn the stem!) and the bobbing of the suspension get in the way. The shock platform is obligatory. Still not ideal: bottle cage under the top tube.
ConclusionThe Zaskar is not a racer, it's all about having fun. The carbon bike is in its element downhill and loves technical trails.
