Flex instead of Horst link is the name of the game with the Super Bud Extreme. Instead of a bearing, Focus relies on a taper in the carbon chainstay, which should enable wear-free compression. The design also saves weight - the frame is the second lightest in the test. However, you shouldn't expect much comfort. With only 78 millimetres of travel at the rear and narrow handlebars, the bike loses ground on downhill sections. Uphill, the rear suspension shows bobbing tendencies, but these are limited due to the tight setup with short travel. With a short head tube and bar ends, the riding position is sporty.
CONCLUSIONS: Racer with an independent frame concept but little comfort. Rather for moderate routes.
TUNING TIP: wide handlebars and anti-twist seat post clamp.
