CONTI Baron (Enduro)

  • DesignationContinental Baron Project Protection Apex/27.5x2.4
  • Rubber compound/TPISingle compound/4x60 TPI
  • Weight: 935 g
  • Rolling resistance: 41.9 Watt
  • Puncture/penetration800 mm/185 N
  • Price: 71 €

Thanks to the open tread, the Baron not only has good self-cleaning properties, but also offers good cornering grip on loose surfaces. The tyre also works well in the wet. Super all-rounder with good puncture protection. Very good, but also expensive.

MAXXIS Aggressor (Enduro)

  • DesignationMaxxis Aggressor Exo-Protection/27.5x2.3
  • Rubber compound/TPIDual compound/60 TPI
  • Weight: 848 g
  • Rolling resistance: 32,7 Watt
  • Puncture/penetration: 638 mm/121 N
  • Price: 53 €

The Aggressor works on hard surfaces in dry conditions. In wet conditions, it clogs up quickly. It quickly reaches its limit on the front wheel when cornering. It is therefore particularly suitable as a rear tyre. The price is favourable.

VITTORIA Mota (Enduro)

  • DesignationVittoria Mota TNT/27,5x2,35
  • Rubber compound/TPIquadruple compound/120 TPI
  • Weight: 937 g
  • Rolling resistance: 28,2 Watt
  • Puncture/penetration: 638 mm/133 N
  • Price: 60 €

Vittoria's Mota scores with good self-cleaning properties in mud. In bends, it reaches its limits early on and starts to slip. The rubber compound rolls extremely well - the Mota has the best rolling resistance in the test, but doesn't build up much grip.

KENDA Hellkat (Gravity) | (FREERIDE Top Score)

  • DesignationKenda Hellkat Advanced Gravity Chassing RSR Dual Layer KVS Wire/27.5x2.4
  • Rubber compound/TPIDual compound/60 TPI
  • Weight: 1172 g
  • Rolling resistance: 50,3 Watt
    Puncture/penetration> 1050 mm*/180 N
  • Price: 53 €

The Hellkat has the highest rolling resistance in the test, but sweetens every descent with enormous cornering grip. Despite the wire construction, the weight remains competitive and the puncture protection is excellent. However, the tyre's high rolling resistance makes it a little sluggish on winding trails.

MAXXIS Minion DHF (Gravity)

  • DesignationMaxxis Minion DHF Double Down 3C Maxx Grip/27.5x2.5
  • Rubber compound/TPITriple compound/120 TPI
  • Weight: 1185 g
  • Rolling resistance: 49.2 Watt
  • Puncture/penetration963 mm/117 N
  • Price: 74 €

Double Down is Maxxis' answer to Schwalbe's stable super-gravity construction. In the puncture test, the Minion DHF is just behind the Hellkat and Magic Mary. In the wet, the narrow profile quickly clogs up. In terms of grip, the Minion leaves nothing to be desired. Could be cheaper.

SCHWALBE Magic Mary (Gravity) | (FREERIDE Top Score)

  • DesignationSchwalbe Magic Mary Super Gravity Addix Ultra Soft/27,52,35
  • Rubber compound/TPINo specification/120 TPI
  • Weight: 1116 g
  • Rolling resistance: 47,7 Watt
  • Puncture/penetration> 1050 mm*/127 N
  • Price: 63 €

If you want to push the Magic Mary Super Gravity in the new ultra-soft compound to its limits, you have to show courage. The tyre is bursting with grip. Whether wet or dry, hard or loose, this tyre masters almost any challenge. Super!

FREERIDE RANKING: The number (maximum 10 points) reflects the overall impression of the testers. 10 = Test winner, it couldn't be better. 9 = Very good. Recommended buy. 8 = Solid performance. 7 = Below average. The product has weaknesses. 1 to 6 = We can only warn against this!

Explanation of rolling resistance: The lower the watt value, the better the tyre rolls. Puncture resistance: The higher the drop height in millimetres, the more puncture-proof the tyre.Photo: FREERIDE MagazinExplanation of rolling resistance: The lower the watt value, the better the tyre rolls.
