They are indispensable on icy roads: studded tyres. Schwalbe now offers replacement studs for all its studded tyres with the appropriate tools to replace lost studs. The classic for everyday winter riding, Marathon Winter, is now also available in 29 inch.

A safe bet in winter: studded tyres. Anyone who has ever been rudely surprised by a slab of ice covered in snow in icy temperatures on a winter trail will appreciate the grip of studded tyres. Schwalbe now offers replacement studs for all its own studded tyres with a suitable insertion tool in case a stud is lost. The winter set is available from bike shops for 13 euros.

Schwalbe's Marathon Winter is now also available in size 29 inch (50-622, 29x2.00). With slightly less tread than the pure mountain bike tyres, it is more suitable for everyday cycling or in grippy snow conditions. However, its 208 metal studs keep the tyre on track even with occasional contact with ice. Schwalbe recommends the minimum pressure specified on the sidewall to ensure that the studs grip best. Like all Schwalbe studded tyres, it can of course also be ridden on dry roads. The Marathon Winter is available from specialist bike shops and costs around 52 euros.

Sebastian Brust was born in 1979 and was originally socialised on his grandmother's folding bike, but has mainly been riding studded tyres since his fifth birthday. Loves all kinds of bikes - and merging with nature. Believes that disc brakes are much safer today than they were 15 years ago and thinks he has helped with his brake and pad tests. However, the trained vehicle technology engineer very much regrets that the bicycle industry is orientating itself on what he considers to be the wrong ideals of the car industry. At BIKE, he corrects, produces and organises digital content on the website.
