Tyres were the first product that Mike Sinyard sold under the Specialized label and they are still an important part of the American premium manufacturer's product range today. In order to keep pace with the competition, the Americans opened their own development office for tyres near Bielefeld about two years ago. To improve production conditions, the company has also changed its production site in the Far East. Until now all Specialized tyres The Americans now have an exclusive factory just for their own tyre production.
The first fears of the new Specialized structures is the new S-Works tyre series with revised profiles, new construction methods and new rubber compounds. Instead of natural rubber, the S-Works tyres now use Silka rubber compounds. According to Specialized, this should not change the rolling resistance, but the grip will be increased. Only minor changes have been made to the tread of the already successful tyres. The side lugs on all tyres are better supported for more direct cornering and the lugs of the tyres are slightly further apart. "The processing of the materials is at least as important as the materials themselves," says Specialized tyre expert Wolf vorm Walde and emphasises that the new factory in Vietnam has once again set new standards. All the weights of the new tyres can be found in the table below. The new S-Works tyres from Specialized are available now and cost 46.90 euros each.
