New mountain bike tyres from Maxxis, Kenda, WTB...
Schwalbe is the market leader for mountain bike tyres in Germany. At Eurobike 2018, the competition is gearing up and looking to capture some market share.

No component influences the handling of mountain bikes more than the tyres. If the rubber compound, tread and carcass work well together, riding fun on the trail increases significantly. At Eurobike, many manufacturers presented new tread patterns, puncture protection layers and additional width variants.
Maxxis shows the Recon Race and EXO+ carcass
Photo: Ludwig Döhl Until now, the Recon profile from Maxxis was only available for wide plus-size tyres. Now it is also available in the sizes 29x2.25 or 29x2.35. The narrower versions should be equally attractive for racing and touring cyclists. With the Exo protective layer, the tyre weighs 670 grams (29x2.25) and costs 65 euros.Photo: Ludwig Döhl The Rekon Race tyre comes specifically for the rear wheel to match the Rekon front tyre. It will only be available in the 29x2.25 size and without 3C rubber compound at a price of 53.50 euros. The weight of the Exo version remains at 670 grams.Photo: Ludwig Döhl Enduro bikers take note: Maxxis is launching a new carcass construction. Tyres with the new EXO+ casing are 150 grams lighter than the heavy double-down tyres and more puncture-resistant than normal Exo casings. For the time being, the new technology will only be available on the Minion DHR/DHF and Rekon tyres.
Kenda with new race and trail tyres

The new Gran Mudda is only available in 27.5x2.4 inch and only appeals to hardcore bikers.
WTB presents new profiles and new widths
Photo: Ludwig Döhl WTB has completely revised the Trail Boss tyre. In future, the tyre will only be available in widths of 2.4 and 2.6 inches. The tread has been made more open and the carcass has been optimised for wider rims. There are also additional high-quality triple rubber compounds and a new Slash Guard protective layer for enduro riders. The highest quality version will cost 69 euros and should weigh around 1100 grams in 29 inch including the protective layer.Photo: Ludwig Döhl The WTB Vigilante gets the same facelift as the Trail Boss. The tread will be more open and the carcass adapted for wide rims. In future, it will only be available in widths of 2.5 and 2.6 inches.
Tioga with new tyre series for all-mountain riders
Photo: Ludwig Döhl Glide is the name of the brand new tyre series that Tioga is launching. The Glide G3 TT enduro tyre is initially only available in 27.5x2.35 inch and is said to weigh 810 grams. Price: 65 euros.

Goodyear presents mountain bike tyres for the first time

Its round profile and closely spaced lugs are designed to reduce rolling resistance. Clearly, the Newton is used when the going gets tough and, above all, downhill. The tyre is available in an Enduro and a more stable DH version.
