The "Magic Mary" is Schwalbe's new all-rounder for downhill-orientated bikers. Especially recommended as a front tyre.

The tyre is available in three rubber compounds (Vert-, Trail- and Pace-Star) and with three different carcasses (Snakeskin, Super Gravitiy and DH). We tested it in all rubber compounds and the two lighter carcass variants as a front and rear tyre.

The "Magic Mary" works excellently when new, offering enormous grip and good cornering grip in both wet and dry conditions. The Trailstar compound represents a very good compromise between grip and wear. The soft Vertstar model rolls noticeably worse, but grips even better. For us, this is the best enduro and freeride tyre on the front wheel alongside the "Highroller II 3C". The reinforced Supergravity carcass makes it significantly more puncture-resistant, but weighs just under 200 grams more.

But (there's always a but): When ridden as a rear tyre, the "Magic Mary" has a well-known Schwalbe problem: the knobs tear off! All it takes is one day in the bike park and half of the outer knobs have detached from the carcass. It's a shame, because the tread actually works really well at the rear too.

PLUS Grip and damping, SG carcass puncture-resistant, enormous cornering grip
MINUS Nubs tear off, therefore only recommended for the front!

CONCLUSION As a front tyre, the "Magic Mary" is highly recommended as an all-rounder. Unfortunately not as a rear tyre because the knobs tear off quickly.
